To the west, take a ride to the scenic Berkshires where you can enjoy summer concerts at Tanglewood in Lenox the summer home of the Boston Symphony, or visit the nostalgic Norman Rockwell Museum, the world's largest and most significant collection of original Rockwell art and the Chesterwood Estate and Museum in Stockbridge which is Summer estate of Daniel Chester French, sculptor of the Concord "Minute Man" and seated "Lincoln" in the Lincoln Memorial. Stop for dinner at the historic Red Lion Inn, or pamper yourself with a spa vacation at one of elegant spas in Lenox. If outlet shopping turns you on, spend a day at the Prime Outlets in Lee.
When it comes to outdoor activities, the Bershires has it all. Drive the scenic Mohawk Trail or take a walk or hike the trails at the Quabbin Reservior. Enjoy winter skiing at of the many ski resorts like Jiminy Peak, Butternut or Mount Greylock. For a summer adventure, try kyaking or white water rafting on the Deerfield River.
To the north, take a drive to South Deerfield where you can visit the Yankee Candle Village and Museum and the Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory and Gardens, the 8,000-square foot conservatory that houses nearly 4,000 native and tropical butterflies.
To the south, Hartford is only 35 miles away and Bradley International Airport and the New England Air Museum is less than 45 minutes away.
Spend a day at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT or at Foxwoods Casinoin Ledyard, CT.
Continue south for a day at Mystic Seaport. Visit the Aquarium and do some shopping at Olde Mystic Village.
To the east, Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge is a “must-see” destination to experience early New England life from 1790-1840. For those who love antiquing, don’t miss the Brimfield Antique Show which is held in May, July and September.
Continue east to Worcester for one of the many shows and concerts at the Hanover Theater for Performing Arts or visit the EcoTarium, a unique indoor-outdoor museum that allows adults and children to discover firsthand the wonders of the natural world. There is always something blooming at the beautiful Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston.
If you love New York, a trip to the Big Apple, is just over 3 hours by car. Boston is less than 2 hrs away and a vacation on Cape Cod is only 2.5 hours away.
